Getting involved as a host organisation

Are you an organisation, voluntary or otherwise, who is looking for volunteers to enhance the work you already do?

We can help you find suitable volunteers and give you guidance and support in training and retaining volunteers when you register with us as a host organisation.

Who can be a host organisation?

Any voluntary or statutory organisation can be a host organisation.

What kind of expenses are involved?

Volunteers give a commitment of time without financial remuneration; however, some host organisations offer to pay a volunteer’s expenses.

What kind of work can I ask a volunteer to do?

Anything…taking into consideration the unique skills a volunteer can add to your organisation. A clear description of the placement is the best place to start. Whether it’s clearing a beach of litter, training a volunteer to work with victims of domestic violence, or having a volunteer help out in a busy marketing office – the Causeway Volunteer Centre can help you identify the right volunteer for you. But please don’t replace a paid worker with a volunteer.

What kind of time commitment should I expect from a volunteer?

It’s different for each volunteer. Decide how many hours a week the placement realistically needs. Some volunteers are just looking for a few hours a week; others are seeking a more time-intensive placement. You and your volunteer can come to an arrangement which is mutually beneficial.

What if I need to do a police check on a prospective volunteer?

Certain placements, e.g. working with children, require a police check before a volunteer can take up a placement. Here at the Causeway Volunteer Centre we can organise a police or POCVA (Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults) check for you.
