Group Leader / Chairperson Responsibilites
Location Coleraine area
Description The aim of the leader would be to establish an active committee made up of several people. A group leader would - Be the first point of contact for new members in the area. Usually chair all group meetings. Encourage a committee to be formed, including a treasurer and secretary. Speak to all new members telephoning or attending the group for the first time. Encourage the group to take part in Society campaigns to help raise the profile of macular disease, the Society and local support groups. Make contact with local sensory services staff/eye clinic personnel so they are aware of the group and could make referrals to clients/patients. Send or take posters to local opticians, GP surgeries, eye clinics and social services sensory teams. Share with the group information sent from the Society regarding new treatments, research and local and national services for people with macular disease. Encourage closer working with local Blind Societies. Encourage involvement from all group members so as to establish a group that fulfils everyone's requirements. Try to attend the Group Leaders Meeting held by the Society annually. Help new MD support groups setting up nearby to establish. Encourage group members to join the Macular Disease Society. Display copy of Side View, our quarterly magazine, information leaflets, joining forms at meetings.
