Welcome to the Causeway Volunteer Centre. The Centre was formed in 1997 to support volunteering in the areas of Ballymoney, Coleraine and Moyle. The Causeway Volunteer Centre is a registered charity and is core funded by the Department of Social Development through the Volunteer Development Agency.
Being a volunteer
So, what is volunteering?
It is the commitment of time and energy for the benefit of the community, the environment or individuals outside one's immediate family. It is undertaken freely and by choice without concern for financial gain. In many cases volunteers work alongside paid members of staff. This complements the work they do. Quite often volunteers have more time than their paid colleagues to interact with people, so they bring added value to the services being provided. Volunteering should never be a substitute for paid employment.
Why volunteer?
People volunteer for many reasons, the predominating reason is that they enjoy it! Volunteers get great satisfaction from the results of their efforts and the difference they make to the community.
How do I start volunteering?
Before volunteering think about why you want to volunteer, what you want to do, how much time you want to give and what skills you have to offer. Remember, the most important skill or aptitude is a desire to help others. Once you have done that, lift up the phone and call 028 7035 8285, and make an appointment to see us at our premises. Need volunteers for your group?
Register with us to become a host organisation. As a host organisation you will be able to access our services and facilities, and if you need volunteers we will help you find and retain them.
Are you a businesses looking to contribute to your community?
Giving back to your community as a business is becoming increasingly important. The Causeway Volunteer Centre runs a programme called Employer Supported Volunteering Scheme through which companies support and encourage their employees in voluntary activities within the local community. We can organise simple one-off or regular events for a small or large number of your employees.
