Stable & Yard Hands ( RDA - Causeway Coast and Glens)

Coleraine

RDA Causeway Coast and Glens.

Stable & Yard Hands

Our traditional RDA activity remains as our core mission and is continuing as usual after Covid.

Our RDA sessions run Tuesday/Wednesday/ Thursday for schools and Saturday mornings for non school  9 – 1pm.

Sessions are led by a coach and run against strict risk management policies. We have 12 horses and ponies at the centre.

As a Charity, RDA Causeway Coast and Glens is dependent upon the volunteers who give their time in a wide variety of different ways.

If you could spare just a few hours each week, you could make a real difference to the lives of the people who benefit from the Centre’s services.

What the role of Stables & yard hands includes

  • mucking out,

  •  turnout of horses, (does require handling)
  •  Haynets.
  • Brushing etc
  • General tidying of the yard
  • Fencing
  • Tractor work
  • Fixing Jumps
  • Painting
  • Odd jobs

Full training is given, and our horses are well trained animals. However, anyone who is apprehensive of horses doesn’t need to handle them to help. We work to peoples’ individual strengths, and no one needs to work outside their comfort zone.

RDA provides the opportunity to gain valuable experience in many key life skills and includes working to support children and adults with learning and physical disability, including behavioural challenges. This is very valuable and rewarding work, which enriches the lives of volunteers and participants alike. We provide important opportunities for social interaction, upskilling, and personal development. The value of work such as this as you know is well regarded by potential employers, universities etc and we often provide references for students and job applicants.

We can support Duke of Ed and similar programmes, including work and student placements for colleges.

Roles that include supporting lessons need a regular commitment.

Most roles require a Access NI form to be completed, and all roles require a reference. If you would like to volunteer please complete the form below and the Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch.
